Hi Betty,
I just wanted to let you know that Greg is doing GREAT ! We have fallen completely in love with him. He was a little nervous in the car on our way home from the shelter, and we could tell that he was definitely sad to leave you guys....but with all the love and constant attention he's been getting, he's cheering up quickly!
He definitely didn't hesitate to find his favorite spot while visiting my parents....directly in front of the fireplace.
We took him to get a nice long bath/grooming on Saturday (a little doggie spa time), and they said he was one of their favorite dogs ever ! (which of course didn't surprise us) ....AND, he had a great time with all the other dogs at my parents house (boys and girls). He was a little shy initially, but by the end of the weekend they were like peas in a pod and having a blast.
We are in the process of investigating vets via all the pet owners in our building, and hope to get him in for his follow-up by this weekend, so we will keep you posted, and follow-up as soon as possible.
Anyway, we just wanted to say thank you for taking such great care of him. He's a wonderful dog, and we are THRILLED to be the ones to give him a permanent and loving home.
Thank you again !!
:) Brooke, Jared, and Greg !
We adopted Jojo a couple months ago, and I just wanted to give you an update on him. We love him so much! He is a wonderful dog and everyone who meets him loves him. He gets healthy organic dog food and loves to sleep nestled right beside us. Just wanted to let you know that he is happy and healthy, and we are blessed to have him in our lives!
Thanks, Dan
Hi Cathy:
I wanted to give you an update on Butterball (who we have renamed “Dandi-Lyon”), he is adjusting well to his new home and we just Love him! He’s had his veterinarian check-up and all is well. He has lots of energy and makes me laugh every day! I am very grateful that you gave him such a good foster home, and that I was able to be the one to adopt him! I have attached a couple of pictures. Thanks again!
Laura
Dear Betty,
I just wanted to give you an update on Toby. We adopted him on 3/3/07, there at HSMC He is such a joy - he is the light of our lives!!!!!
In May, Toby passed his Basic Obedience through K-9 College here in Spfld. Last week he passed his final observation and has been certified (by Therapy Dogs International)as a Pet Therapy Dog through Best Friends Animal Assisted Therapy!
How anyone could have given him up, we don't know. We're just glad we're the ones who found him!!!!!
I've attached a picture of Toby with his "Bunny". Just wanted you to know how much we love him!
Sincerely,
Karen
This is a follow up on the Beagle dog named Baxter that I adopted two weeks ago. Baxter is doing fine and adjusting quickly to his new home. He is very sociable, completely housebroken, and loves to play 'tug'. He also enjoys romping at the Bark Park in Westerville. Thanks for your good work!
We just wanted to send a big 'Thank You!!' to you all who helped us adopt our precious Catahoula Leopard dog, Teller (now to forever be known as "Winston" according to his new daddy.)We stopped at Pet People in Pickerington on the way home Saturday and he stole the show!
Everyone raved about how handsome he is and asked what kind of dog he is.
He(we)picked out some great Innova large breed puppy chow and chewy hard bones for all three dogs, of course, and a new ID tag. He LOVES all dog toys and is getting the hang of chasing the Frisbee in our big fenced-in yard. He takes 'running fits' and tears around the big yard as fast as he can. He's so funny.
He's going to our vet Friday for a check-up.
No crate, no problems or accidents at all so far.
I left him alone for an hour and a half this morning and all was well. (Of course it's still early yet.)If he has problems, we'll get him a HUGE crate but I think he's going to be just fine because I'm here most of the time.
We are crazy about him and he's very well-behaved for such a young guy who has been shuffled around so much.
We introduced him to our two older dogs on neutral ground and they're all doing fine together. One cat likes him, one is scared.
Please tell his two trainers at Madison how much we appreciate the good job they did with this big guy.
The CO who gave him back to you did us (and Winston) a HUGE favor.
We'll send pictures soon.
Thanks again. May God bless you all for the important work you do for His creatures.
Rita and Les Estep
Zoe wants to say "HAPPY OCTOBER AND HAPPY HALLOWEEN" to all of you!
Here she is ready to Trick or Treat. This is her favorite pasttime - sitting on my lap.
She is a great lap dog. She is also so very well behaved.
We are going to the vets now to check on her ear infection. This won't be her favorite thing.

Hello, just wanted to let you know that Kelsie is doing well. The bump on her head is much better and it is all healed up. Kelsie has also learned 5 commands: Sit, Lay, Dance, Down, & up. We use the down and up for the furniture. When we take Kelsie for rides in the car, everyone always asks, " What kind of dog is that?!" People also compliment Kelsie on how cute her face is! Kelsie has also aquired a new "leisure acivity"; she likes to chase butterflies! Hope to hear from you soon!

Here is more pictures of Kelsie.
Just wanted to send you a photo of Kelsie's 1st Halloween photo! She looked at herself, in the mirror, all day! Kelsie is going to be a Movie Star/ Diva for Halloween!
So, of course she's going to look at herself all day!
Kelsie has been doing really well, she's got a few quirks, though. For example,
constantly pushing her bone of the couch/bed, just to her the "thud" it makes, and doing that over and over again! Or looking at herself in the mirror, and barking, because she thinks there is another dog in the house! Little things like that.
Let us know how you've liked the photos we've sent!
Hope to hear from you soon & hope you have a Happy "Howl-o-ween!"
Hi Betty!!
Just wanted to send you an update on Sara Rylie - formally known as Vegas. She has become the joy of our lives, spoiled rotten to the core!! She has finally settled down from being a little timid at first. She loves to play ball & race around the yard. She goes for walks with the neighbor dogs & they seem to get along good. She has a rag pull toy & loves to play tug a war with the girls, making little growling sounds but it sounds more like she is gargling!
I think she has finally gotten use to the girls going to school now. She will walk out with us to wait for the school bus. Then when the bus comes, she will give a couple little "yips" as if to say good-bye. The first couple of days (Thursday/Friday) when they started back to school, I think she got mad that they left her & she left them a little "present" in their room as punishment for leaving. Up until that time, she has never had a mistake in the house.
On Saturday, she walked around the house with a toy in her mouth, whining. I think she was wondering why the girls weren't downstairs getting ready for school. I sent her upstairs to their room to check on them & she seemed happy to know they were still here - just sleeping in.
She loves to sit on our bed, looking out our front window, watching the cars go by & squirrels running around. She went to the vet & got checked over along with her rabies shot, heartworm pills and K9 advantix. She also got a cookie from the vet, for being such a good girl. She weighed 25 lbs. to which we were very surprised, since she is a tiny babe!! Her appetite has improved. She gained 4.5 lbs. since her last visit to the vet. She recently visited the vet again due to a little ear infection. He put her on some antibiotic pills, to which we have to try & get her to swallow. This usually takes a couple tries because the minute you turn your back, she spits them out. Once she does swallow it, she gets a couple of ice cubes.
Christopher was right, she does love ice cubes!! She has figured out the sound of the ice cube maker on the refrigerator door and no matter where she is in the house, will come running into the kitchen every time she hears it, wanting her ice cubes.
She still listens to her commands, once in a while, being a little lazy about doing them (as if she is testing us) but then gives in. She loves to "sit pretty" when she gets her cookie from being a good girl.
This little girl is just the cutest & sweetest "babe".
As Betty once said, "she will make your heart swell' and she wasn't wrong about that - she has big time!! She should have been called "cuddles" because she loves to cuddle, give hugs & kisses.
TO ALL OF YOU, WHO HAVE TOUCHED THE LIFE OF SARA RYLIE "VEGAS" WE THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!!

Hello: I adopted a dog from your shelter on 31 Mar 07. Hopefully, you will remember him. I believe you called him Sonic. I named him Scooby Doo. I wanted to write to tell you how wonderful he is. I just love him so much. He has a great life surrounded by people who love him and he gets to play with my daughter's three dogs quite often. Scooby has come into his own. He weighs 16 lbs. and has a beautiful coat of hair. I take him to the groomers regularly and vet checks. He got a clean bill of health from the vet and had his teeth cleaned. The vet thought he was between 4-5 years old.
He has brought me a lot of love and happiness in my life. I definitely did the right thing by adopting. He plays with his toys, goes for a walk every day, gets treats for being a good boy and is a lot of company for me. He gets tons of kisses and belly rubs. He is so grateful that he was rescued; he never lets me out of his sight. I do not have a picture of him because the digital pictures my daughter sent did not come through but I will send you a picture when I get some good shots. Thanks to all of you who cared for him. His life now is full of love, joy, and hope. I would not trade him for a million dollars.

Hi Betty (and Cathie & Annie too!)
We brought Mojo (aka Navajo) home on Friday, July 13 and he is one lucky dog! Mojo is a perfect fit for our family. He is so sweet and he made himself right at home as you can see from the pictures. We introduced him to our three year old Bulldog, Lucy and it was a little rough going for the first hour (for her not him) but once we got them out on a walk together, all was great! Now the two of them are constantly playing together except when they are napping on their respective couches from exhaustion! It's as if they are old friends after only one week.
Oh and his new name was no problem at all to change up. It sounded close enough to Navajo. He probably thinks we can't pronounce his name correctly! Haha
The cats have yet to accept Mojo and they spend a lot of time upstairs away from him. Mojo doesn't understand that he's not supposed to chase the cats when they approach him. Lucy doesn't chase them anymore because they have HER trained. I'm sure in the next year the cats will have HIM trained too!
Also, I took Mojo to the Gahanna Animal Hospital on 7/18/07 for his required 10 day exam and the doc says he is in perfect health and is one cute little dog. He is eating Iams Large Breed Puppy Food and has adjusted great to the change of diet.
Please thank Mojo's correctional facility handler for taking such good care of him for the past 30 days and for training him to be such a wonderful dog. He listens to his commands most of the time and loves to cuddle on the couch with us. What a wonderful program for all dogs to attend. We wouldn't have had it any other way.
And to top it all off, a friend of mine that is a certified dog trainer has asked to use Mojo in his training DVD. Mojo could be a STAR! HA! If that ever comes to fruition, I'll be sure to send you a DVD.
Thanks for a wonderful addition to our pack!
Sincerely,
Wendy & Darrin
Hi Betty & Kathy & Anna,
We made it back to Colorado OK. I think my husband & I were the most tired...dogs were fine! Missy had "accidents" in both hotel rooms. The 2nd night I made some mistakes; I had some trouble handling the dogs alone, so we got a call from the front desk regarding dogs barking. I got them under control & didn't get kicked out!
There were a few moments when I thought maybe Missy would be too much of a challenge. The 1st night in the hotel, people outside the room woke us all up. Then Missy ran around the hotel rm playing with her toy for 45 mins. I thought...how much energy does this dog have? She should be tired. The 2nd night after the barking warning, I attached Missy's leash to the bed & she slept all night. Great improvements! When we got home one of the first evenings she had (3) accidents within 2 hrs. I was taking her out very often but, she was only going to the bathroom inside. For the rest of that week she only had (1) accident. This past week she did not have any accidents! Missy has made steady progress adjusting to her new home & family.
After (3) days together Moritz & Missy started playing together. The play sessions are getting longer & more frequent. They are truly bonding. They steal each other's bones & eat from each others bowls (I supervise so only crumbs are stolen) without aggression.
Missy is gaining weight & sleeping often during the day.
Missy is a keeper, we all love her! Here are some pictures below. Just in case you can't tell the 2 dogs apart; 1st pic Missy is in background, 2nd pic Missy is in the forefront. Moritz has given up her 2nd bed to Missy; only in the picture neither one is using it. Missy often sleeps very close to Moritz. They don't sleep together yet... I will soon send you some pictures in a card to fwd to the handler in the prison. If possible, you may fwd this email to the handler.
I will also send you another update with pictures to use for your "board".
Best regards & thanks again for Missy! Keep up the great work you all do.

Hello,
I adopted Sophie, the Jack Russell Terrier, in May 2007...for my parents who live in Huntsville, Alabama. I just wanted to let you know that she is doing wonderfully, is very happy, and they are extremely happy with her. I am attaching a picture of them together. :-)
Kathy
What can I say? We just love Harley. He's a wonderful dog and I think he's a lovin' it here. Wants to be right where we are- wherever we go: Kitchen, Florida Room, Garage, Laundry Room, on the computer, you name it. Doesn't miss a thing. He's got to be up in the mix. And loves his walks. Mike runs with him around the yard maybe 3 full times and wears both of them out. I can't run- bad knee- so he just gets walks from me. If he sees a bird or rabbit he's wanting to get it. Strong! Can he pull. Saw two neighbor dogs on his walks and he lets loose a bark and a howl, like this is HIS territory- What's that dog doin' over in MY yard? Funny. He lays on his belly with those back legs sprawled out. We call them "chicken legs and thighs".
His first vet appointment is Sat. morning Aug 11th. Well, I could go on and on about Harley but he's just the greatest. Thank you for giving us the chance to adopt him.
Dear Madison County Humane Society,
It's been a little over a week since I adopted Zoe (originally named Molly) from you. My family and I are really enjoying her. She's such a nice, well-behaved dog. She has not had any accidents in the house nor has she chewed anything up. She and our yellow lab, Sophie, get along well and like to play together.
My brother and I walk her everyday--she loves to chase rabbits and squirrels!! And you're correct, with your description on the pet finder website that she would "make a great personal trainer", boy can she run fast!
I am working on "sit" with her. She is finally getting her new name--Zoe, and ignores my sister's name--Molly!
Since she's been home, she's had a bath and her first vet visit. They ran a stool sample and examined her-- she is very healthy! I bought some more heart worm medicine for her.
Thank you again for your help in finding us such a wonderful dog,
Sarah
Good morning.
Just wanted to give you one more update about our adopted "Lexi." She has been a part of our family now for only about 6 weeks or so, but she is fitting right in. She knows her new name now. She is such a sweet, smart girl. She and Digger seem to be getting along better all the time. We think that since Digger realized Lexi is here to stay, he has been much more accepting and tolerant of her.. She still manages to torment him a lot of the time though!
She is totally trained on the Invisible Fence and will stay in our yard all the time, which is great. She comes when you call her. She hasn't had an accident in the house for a week or so now. She loves to chase balls, sticks, frisbees...whatever you throw, she will chase! I have taught her to catch treats, and just in the past few days I taught her to roll over, which she caught onto really quickly. Now both of the dogs can catch and roll over, which is really funny to see. She needs a lot of stimulation, so I try real hard to play ball with her or walk her or something every evening to get some of that energy out of her.
She is very very gentle and lovable. She still loves to give kisses, which I love but nobody else in my family likes to have on their face! Last time I took her to the vet, she had gained 8 pounds, and that was about 2 weeks ago.
When I look at her, I think about where she came from and why she was a stray, and it just makes me feel so good to know that she has a good home and a family who loves her.
Please say thanks again to the person who took such good care of her and trained her while she was in your facility. They obviously were very loving with her, because she doesn't have a mean bone in her body.
I'd send a picture, but she looks the same as she did when we got her... just a bit fatter!
Thanks again,
Joni

Hi All,
Angel ( Marley ) got a great bill of health from the vet. She is fitting in just great and everyone loves her. My family came over to my house yesterday and she got along with everyone. She barks at the horses and is really proud when the walk away. She prances like she did a really big thing making them move. How do you get to foster your pets? We fostered here in morrow county and ended up adopting him. The humane society over here is not organized and is in a tiff with the dog shelter here so my husband and I decided to adopt leo and not foster here any more. It was nice looking at Marley at your place and not hearing bad things about anyone else. I will send pictures and keep you updated on Angels progress. Thanks again for a wonderfull pup.
I just wanted to give you an update on Salsa. She is doing very well making the adjustment to becoming a family dog. She and Leo are slowly working out their relationship with each other. He is dealing with jealousy and sibling rivalry but I think in a few weeks they will be okay together.
She has only shown mild interest in our cat and Hershey is definitely not bothered by her at all.
We spent the morning out at the dog park. She behaved very well, and only gotten timid when a pack of other dogs ran up to her when we first got there. She hid between my legs for a few minutes, but as she watched Leo racing around with the other dogs, she got braver and started to tag along. She came quickly every time she was called, and we had a chance to play fetch for a while once we had the park to ourselves. This afternoon, she worked nicely with Micah, my 11 year old and his friend. They kept her busy for quite a while going through her whole repertoire of tricks and obedience. Haven 't done much yet with heel, but that will come. We will definitely work on the no jumping on people rule! She really loves running with the boys, and just has to learn that she can't jump on them like she would another dog!
Her house manners have been impeccable so far. She had one accident when we first got home last night, but as soon as I showed her to the back door she hasn't had any problems. She loves all of the dog toys that are all over the house, and can't decide which one to hang on to so she is constantly picking up one and dropping it for another one. She quickly learned that we don't beg at the table for food and tonight she laid quietly during dinner chewing on her rope bone.
Will keep you posted on her progress! Thank you so much and please pass our thanks on to her handler at Madison Correctional. He has done a wonderful job in helping Salsa become a great family dog!
Sincerely,
Meri
Hi All!
Long time no talk to, I know. But, Lydia (the baby) has been keeping me incredibly busy! My mom was here for the past few days with Tina and I thought I would send you a picture of the whole crew. Both dogs are doing really well. Whitney had a little bit of an adjustment disorder since the real baby came and she got knocked down one knotch on the pecking order and is no longer the REAL baby! But, she is now one of the best dogs I could have ever asked for when it comes to kids. Tina is doing great, too. She gets to go to the farm with my mom every day and run around in the ponds, lakes, and woods while my mom takes care of the horses. She has grown up a lot and is SO snuggly-soft! My mom actually did a speech in her class (she went back to school last year) about the prison program and dog adoptions!
Anyway, here is the picture!
Jessie
Hi everyone,
This is Midnight. I just wanted to tell you that I made it home safe and having a great time. I finally found where I am suppose to be. My new "mommy" and "sister" think I'm awesome. They keep telling me I'm spoiled whatever that is.
I have a huge back yard that I play in every day. I have lots of toys with my favorite being tennis balls. I even have a friend named Lily that I get to have play dates with. Every time I go out and potty, I get these things that look like dog bones that they call "cookies". I already know where the cookie jar is so I sit there until they give me one. I'm trying really hard on my commands that I learned, but I just don't like to listen to the word down or off.
My new home has this comfy loveseat that I can't seem to stay off of. I listen to sit and stay very well. Please tell my handler that trained me that I am trying to make him proud.
My new favorite word is bye bye. I love to go in the car. There's even a cool drive thru that gives doggie treats. How cool is that? I'm also learning this new trick where I roll over, and I like to give people high five. I get lots of praise when I do what I am suppose to do.
When I came home from the shelter, my new "grandparents" put up a big sign that said Welcome Home Midnight. I get to go and visit them and even have my own cookie jar there too. I wish all my friends at the shelter will find the home and love that I have. Oh, and did I tell you that I get to sleep in the bed every night with my "mommy"? They even made a set of steps up to the picture window where I can sit and watch everyone go by. Thanks for finding someone to love me and take care of me.
Love,
Midnight
P.S. I am very, very curious and wondering if you could ask Midnight's handler (Bender) a question. What is the deal with "good girl"?
When we ask if she's a a "good girl" she stops, cocks her head and becomes wild and jumps on us whether sitting or standing. She seems to know this phrase more than any and it catches her attention instantly when we've asked her that from day one. We thought maybe after she was good that maybe they'd play rough with her for a bit or something. Thanks for any help for helping us understand. And thank you very much for bringing the love a dog back into our home. We couldn't be happier.
Hi all,
I just wanted to let you know how well Sara is doing since we brought her home on Saturday. She is a true joy and has already endeared herself to us and everyone who has met her. She has adapted extremely well to our surroundings (wasn't sure initially about the steps in our home probably due to her vision, but she has mastered it with flying colors). She loves chasing her ball and a frisbee and has a stuffed bear with a squeaker that goes with her everywhere. She wants desperately to play with our cats but they just want to ignore her. If she keeps at it, I think she'll eventually convince them to play too.
Thank you so much for Sara; and please let everyone know how well she is doing. We will send you pictures soon.
The Bichsel Family
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that we made it home safely and Ziggy was very good in the car. He got a little restless but a little walk helped that. In your description of him you referred to him as a goofy boy. that was an understatement. He has a great personality. The trainers at the Correctional facility did a great job. Will send pictures when available. God bless all of you for your work with the animals.

Dear HSMC,
Whitman is fast approaching his 1st birthday, a party is in the works. He was one of Queenie's Puppies and his name was Buck at the prison. He entered my life almost one month after I lost my first dog Emerson and has been perfect. They look very similuar but it has been fun to see their discover their different personalities.
He is doing great, we have had an eventful year. We have been camping and traveling. Started our journey last September on two camping trips, took at trip to Florida this spring and experienced the ocean, then went on a road trip to Northern Michigan twice, and just last weekend found ourselves in the hills of Kentucky. We have been busy at doggie day care and dog parks. Whitman has made several friends.
This summer we are going to try kayaking and work on training to be Delta Society Petpartner. This will enable us to visit people in the nursing home...I know it will be a mutually beneficial for myself, him and the people we visit.
We will send pictures soon, if you can pass them on to his handler...it would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Brenda Hartz and Whitman Ferguson
We adopted Sadie & Weaver July 1, 2006. Sadie was a 4 yr. old female boxer-lab mix. Weaver was a 5 month old brindle colored maile puppy. Both 'kids' are doing well. Sadie walks 3 mi with me every morning, she is a wonderful walker. Sadie likes to wear hats (since she's a princess) and is spolied rotten. Weaver is calming down a bit....We have a dog park about a mile down the road - my husband takes him there several times a week. Weaver does mind well, he weighs a little over 80 pounds now and he is a beautiful boy. We love our two 'kids' dearly. Just thought you guys may want a happy update.
Just thought you'd like to see this - it's one of the author photos I had taken last week for my newest book, due out in January 2008.
Best

Good morning Betty. I just wanted to let you know that we picked Sassy up yesterday. (We are attempting to change her name to Lexi.)
What a sweet girl she is! She is so loveable and playful and just a good girl all around. She is so well-behaved also. Whoever was in charge of training her did a wonderful job. She comes when you call her (we're calling her Sassy/Lexi to try to get her used to her new name) and she only peed in the house one time, which I think is because she was so excited and didn't know where to go! Digger is "tolerating" her so far. She will get him to play with her and then he gets tired of it and just wants to be left alone, but they do play well together. Gerry (my husband) said he thinks Digger is "mad at me" for bringing a new dog in the house.. He'll get used to her, I know he will. They are laying together on the futon right now, not touching each other but on opposite sides.
On the way home from the Humane Society, she just sat there on my lap. She wanted to go over on Matt's lap. She didn't get car sick or anything. She just laid there or sat there on a blanket on my lap. The only downfall we can see to her is that she SHEDS A LOT! We didn't realize how much she sheds, so I made Matt promise to brush her at least once a day, and if I do it a couple times a day, we should be able to keep it under control. I gave her a bath when we got her home, and she wasn't too thrilled at first, but was very very good while I was giving her the bath. She was running around like a nut when she was finished.
Last night I attempted to block her in my office with a baby gate, but she jumped right over that. So I tried putting her on a dog bed in our bedroom, but she kept jumping up on our bed. So then I put her in her crate, and she slept beside our bed all night long without a peep. She is so sweet. I let her out this morning around 4:30 and she ran out and went to the potty right away. I think she is going to fit in perfectly here.
Anyway, I will send you another e-mail after we've had her a couple weeks. A picture is attached of her this a.m. crashing out on the futon while I'm sitting here working.
Sincerely,
Joni Laughner
Storm is a 10 year old Rott adopted by the Schrock Family. Thanks for opening up your heart and home to a senior.
Hi Everyone:
Just wanted to let you know how much we are enjoying the dog we adopted at your place. You had named him Leroy but we renamed him Roscoe and he knows his named already. We adopted him on January 19th and took him a day later to be groomed and he looks awesome. Our vet thinks he is a lasapoo (lasa apso/poodle mix). He is perfect for our family. He especially loves giving kisses and cuddling with his mom and playing with his dad and new 17 year old brother. Thank you so much.
Jana
Dear Madison County Humane Society,
Hey everyone! It's me, MISCHA! I just wanted to write to let you all know how I am doing! Ever since I was adopted in December, I have been SO happy! I get to lay on the couch on top of my people and snore to my heart's content. I also get to play with my big sister, Gwen, the BEST big sister ever! She teaches me what I should do (not that I always listen to her!). We love to watch Cesar Milan, the dog whisperer, and go for walks. This place is great! Here are some pictures of me and my sis. The first is from the day I came home; the second is our Christmas picture. Although I miss you all very much, I love my people and my sister. Thank you so much for finding them for me! I'll make sure to keep in touch!
Hi, I don't know if you remember me but I'm David Graham. I have the Jack Russell named Fletcher. I seen your name on my E-Mail list I thought you would like to know that Fletcher is doing well and is very happy, he is a great dog and buddy. Hope you are doing well and had a great Holliday. Here is a pitcher of him I'll send you more. Thanks again for putting Fletcher in my life. Hope your doing well.
Hi I wanted to send a thank you to everyone who helped my family adopt Finnigan, aka”Furby/Buster” He is a very loving happy puppy, who gets along great with our 10 year old lab Asia. He has to give anyone who enters our home a big lick on the face known as the “Wheatin Greetin”.He has grown to be about 40lbs and he is estimated to reach around 60lbs when fully developed. So his mystery father must have been a big dog. He is a wonderful addition.
Thank You,
Heather
Hello this is Robert, the proud owner of Jake.
Jake is doing very well in his new home. He is such a wonderful companion. Jake has adjusted very quick and is doing great, although he thinks, at times he is a lap dog and a cat, while I am in my recliner, will have to send pictures to you later so you will understand what I am talking about. He is such a great dog to have in my life . He never leaves my side while I am in the house or outside (unless he sees a kid to play with).
He loves the bath and the hairdryer. We go for long drives in the country and walks in the parks. The first time I took him to the park was just after I gave him a bath and he found every mud puddle to play in. I went and got a harness to work on the pulling issue that he has and he took to it very fast. I really love him and he is so spoiled he is my son. He loves to sleep where ever I am sleeping couch chair or the bed. I am going to bring him back up to say hello to all of you wonderful folks who took great care of him.
I was wanting to know what I can bring to the shelter to help out for the winter months to come, please let me know so I can help out those who are still waiting for that special person to care for them in a new home. I would like to send the inmate who was working with Jake a update as well as a picture if that is possible, or if I send the pictures to you if you could make sure that he gets one as well as a update would be great. Thanks for the happiness you have allowed me to enjoy in my life.

Our cocker mix we adopted on Nov. 17 is named Pecos Bill. He is so sweet and smart! Right now he is leaning against my foot as I work at the computer. He had just a few accidents, but now is completely house broken. He has learned to use the doggie door to go in and out, has learned to sit and wait to be fed, has learned not to bolt out the door when it is opened, and learned the command \"leave it\" just from our talking to him and watching our other dog. Doby Dog, our other dog, is acting younger than he has for a long while now that he has a playmate. It\'s all good.
Thanks for rescuing him for us!

Hello to all:
My husband and I adopted Hannah, the lab gloden retriever mix this past February. Just wanted to let you know that she is doing great. We are currently getting ready for christmas, and she is not sure of the decorations. she has her own stocking though and it will be filled with bones on christmas morning. she has brought so much joy to our lives. We are planning to move to a bigger house this spring or summer. I hope to adopt her a playmate then when we have the room. I will try to get some pictures of her sent to you all soon. Thank you so much again. The Herrons
Hi guys, it's Otis (you knew me as Blaze).
Just wanted to send you a quick note to let you know I'm doing well. My new family is very nice and takes good care of me. Right after they picked me up, we went to Petsmart and got a cage, dog food, chew toys, and a collar. After that, we went back to my new home and it was perfect.
These people are crazy and tried to get me to sleep on a down comforter. I sneezed a few times to let them know I didn't like the idea.
The next day (Sunday), we went to class at Petsmart and I was the star pupil. I already respond to my name, sit on command, lay down, and come when called. I'm pretty smart and will do just about anything for treats.
They've been feeding me well and including fish oil in the morning and a scrambled egg in the evening. All the protein and oils have really helped my skin. As for my surgery, I've been a good boy and have left the stitches alone. I have my first Dr appointment at London Animal Hospital on the 26th, and will be glad to get everything checked out.
I hope they don't read this email, 'cause right now I've got them wrapped around my little dewclaw.
I've enclosed a picture so you can see how great I look, and how comfortable I am in my new home.
Thanks for all you did for me, and thanks for passing me along!
Bye for now...Otis

Rottadors\" home with myself and my family...Her name was Freckles when we adopted her, she is now called \"Mandy\", and she absolutely rules the house!! She is such a good girl, and the kids just adore her! I just wanted to say thank you again for allowing us to make her a member of our family!!

Hello,
Our family adopted Velvet from you last October; she was part of your correctional program. She has been such a wonderful addition to our family, she gets along great with our two young children and is so very well behaved! We had a family member’s dog for a few months while they were in transition and Velvet adapted very well to him as well. Now that Tank, our visitor, has left us we are interested in adopting a friend for Velvet. Since we have had such a great experience with Velvet being a graduate of the program, we are really interested in adopting another graduate. Could you please advise if you have any others that are looking for a home?
I can’t remember the lady’s name that assisted us with her adoption, but I wanted to share a couple of pictures of Velvet to show how she looks now.
Beth
Hi Betty - I just wanted to let the staff there know that we made it back to New Hampshire with Finley and he is settling in to his new home beautifully! He really is a great dog! His handler did a super job in his basic training skills. He traveled in the car very well also.
We are thrilled to have him a part of our family and will keep you updated on his progress.
Thanks for all you have done for him and for all you continue to do to place these poor animals in happy homes!
Best Regards,
Lisa

Hello
It has been about two weeks since we adopted Fletcher. He is a lot of fun and loves to play. He did not bark till the second day and we were wondering if he ever barked. When he finally voiced it was a little scary because he has such a deep and long bark! Did not expect that. We all looked at each other said wow was that him? He still doesn't bark much but when he does he gets noticed. :) After the third day he was in full puppy playful mode. We took him swimming and he just loves the boat ride as well as the water. Fletcher is a very good dog and knows his commands very well. A special thanks to the trainer! He really is a great dog. Thanks.
Sincerely;
Mike,Natalie,Nathaniel
Just wanted to give you an update on our \"kids\"....They have adjusted well
to the invisible fence...We have a good sized back yard and they love to
run playing \'chase\'. Sadie has some dominance issues and has been more
aggressive towards Weaver than we like, so we have started having a
personal dog trainer come to our home and works with us...seems to be
working well. We feel both Sadie & Weaver will be great dogs...
We did find out that Weaver is a mix (of course) but he\'s mainly \'Rhodesian
Ridgeback\'. We think that\'s so cool!! Just wanted to let you know that our
family is doing well and we love our \'kids\'. Take care and thanks again
for your help in getting us these wonderful animals.

-----------------------------------------
Life is just busy here right now.
Whoever gave up Smiley really lost out on a great dog. We've had a couple of small fights between the two boys, but nothing serious. The biggest fight was over a toy. They are a sight harnessed into the back of the car. We all but stop traffic. :)
Smiley has had all his shots and boosters now. He had to have antibiotics for a small cut on his face, but it is now healing nicely. Betty, do you have any additional information about his clotting problem? As he is going to have to have a tooth removed in the fall, the vet is asking.
I'm still trying to get pics of the two hounds together, but they tend to separate before I can get the camera. Smiley accompanied Shirley and me to transport Dryfus to his new foster home. Within the hour, the two hounds were curled up sounds asleep all snuggled up together.
Smiley has made no attempt to climb fences here. I think there has to be someone or something he wants on the other side. We've done some visiting with other dogs so that both the boys get to socialize. Smiley gets to shred the odd box, but not too many. His worst habit is when he has gas and farts. That hound has killer farts. lol Almost gassed Shirley and me out of the car.
All is well. Smiley has most certainly found his forever home. We can't imagine life without him now. I've attached a few pics of him and Dryfuss. Shirley is on the left, Uta from Cdn Hound Rescue is in the middle, and I'm on the right. Also one of my shadow, Billy, who quites likes Smiley but isn't ready to admit it yet.
I just get busy and forget to email. You are always welcome to ask. :)

Hi Everyone-
We adopted Abby the Beagle/Jack Russel mix female on June 16th. We were a little nervous about it that day because Abby was so shy during our visit to the shelter.
Adopting her turns out to be one of the very best decisions that I have ever made. She warmed up to us within the first few days, and she is like a totally different animal that the little shaking thing we saw that first day. She runs happily in the back yard, plays with the cats, goes on walks in the woods (she does great on a leash), rides in the car, and makes friends with other dogs and other people. She is still shy around men and loud noises, but she is doing so, so well.
We couldn't thank you enough...
Lauren, Penny, and Abby
Just wanted to let you know that we got Vincent (now known as "Lucky") home and brushed him out really well (which he loved!) and then took him to the campgrounds at deercreek with us. He loved the car ride. He likes to stick his nose out the open window and take in all the smells while he sits on my lap. He was such a good boy! He needs some leash lessons though. He was super friendly with the kids, other dogs etc. He is a very good boy. Still having trouble with trying to lick the stitches. Maybe I am just not getting the rolled up towel thing. Could you try to explain that again? Anyway, I just think he is the cutest thing and we are being very patient with him. I feel very Lucky to have him and I think he is a Lucky dog that you guys found him in the nick of time. Once he gets his stitches out, I am going to take him to petsmart and get a really good grooming. I will take a picture and send you one through email. He will look soooo handsome! Thanks again for everything and for letting us ado

HI! Wanted to send you a couple pictures of Brassy. She is doing
wonderful, she had her stitches out yesterday and has gained some weight.
She is very playful and has made a wonderful addition to our family.
Thanks

Hi to all,
I wanted to thank all of you for helping me to adopt Paige. She has a wonderful personality and has clearly been someone's house pet. She knows where her crate is and will willingly go in it to sleep during the day. She finds the cat's food more appetizing then her own, but I am working on that with her. She gets along well with my cat and did a great job of riding in the car. She loves to be in the same room as I am and is like a second shadow. I hope that will lessen a bit as she becomes more comfortable in her new surroundings. She has made fast friends through the fence with the 2 goldens next door. I will keep all of you posted on her progress.
Thank you,
Shawna
Just wanted to share a phote of Noelle and Susie. Noelle is doing great and what a wonderful dog she is. We are very blessed to have received her.
Spanky (with white and brown furkid) is doin very good, here is a picture with Blanquita (the lhasa apso), they are getting alone together very well.
Thank you,
Orlando
Bashful Bud is doing great!
May 1st--I just wanted to thank everybody for all the help in finding Cole and getting him to me. He\'s a real nice cat and we all like him a lot. He has a great deep purr and loves to be petted. He\'s very outgoing but still a little growly with the other cats. But he\'s relaxing already and we haven\'t had any knock-down-drag-out fights so I\'m sure he\'s going to fit right in here. I\'ll bet he was sick and tired of being caged and handled and hauled around in that carrier, and he\'s just enjoying his freedom. And I\'m happy, I finally got my little black cat!
Thanks again,
Reita
May 5th--Just wanted to let you know that Cole Black is doing just fine here. He\'s a leg-rubber and has a great rich purr. What a beautiful velvety black he is. I call him my velvet Elvis. He\'s growling less, so I think he\'s getting used to the other cats. My Lilybelle is an instigator and she just won\'t leave him alone, she wants to play! So thanks for beautiful Cole and for all the help you gave in getting him here. We love him.
Reita
Coco is doing wonderful. I just want to let you know he is the best dog! I adopted him in May 2005; he is boxer/rottweiler cross. SO sweet and loyal and loves to play! He also gets along great with my roommate's dog Sage. His name had gotten changed to Rocky in the prison program, but we found that he liked Coco better, so we changed it back. He LOVES to sleep in bed with me (if I don't invite him up at night he will walk around the bed and stare at me until I do). He also loves going for rides in the car and he enjoys pulling my neighbor's daughter in her wagon. Such a great dog! Just wanted to let you know everything is going great him.
April 26th,
I wanted to share some pictures of Rodeo( was Radimous). He's grown about a pound and a half since I've had him. He's not quite potty trained but he's been amazingly good very few accidents from day 1. He's complimented on how cute he is from everyone that sees him and the vet couldn't believe how perfectly symmetrical his markings were. Thanks for all your hard work helping the little guy get healthy, it's really appreciated. Feel free to contact me anytime about him and thanks again!
Adam

Hello Betty,
London is doing very well. It took him no time at all to become a member of the family.
Both kids adore him and love to try and teach him tricks (he learns quickly). He's great with the kids, even our little girl (Eden) who can sometimes be a bit much. I was amazed to find London to be so gently, and full of love. He really enjoys the walks and trips to the park which is located on Lake Ontario so gets to have a refreshing dip when ever he wants.
We are looking forward to the Airedale event in Toronto, it sounds like fun.
The two of us have become best friends. I couldn't think of a better dog to be friends with!
My Family and I would like thank the Madison Humane Society and George (http://www.doggietransportguy.com) for everything they've done for London.
Sincerely,
Amber, Jeffrey, Aaron, Eden, and London
Hello ladies
We made it home last night and decided to rename Fabeo to Bandit. He came in and kinda took over. Every one here just fell in love with him except Peanut (our other dog) and she was not sure what to think. Every time Bandit coughed Peanut ran and hid. She is a big chicken. My son (our reference) and his 2 boys spent the night last night and Bandit slept with him. Bandit cuddled up behind David and slept like a baby. He did not want to eat or drink last night at all but he had to do his business outside just like he knew what to do. I think he is going to be pretty spoiled. That is a great thing.
Thank you again
Bill & Verna
Hi Betty!
Things are going great with Cody. What a perfect dog! His energy has doubled and he's just the happiest thing. He's doing great. We've been keeping up with his training he was given and even taught him how to "speak" and play dead. It's histerical. You point your finger at him and say bang and he falls to the floor on his side and looks up at you. He's heard "i love you" so much that he kind of tries to bark it out in his growly barks, then you get licked up the entire length of your face. He also LOVES to curl up in the floor with me and take naps. He's just precious. As far as the former owner saying that he would not hunt, that's a bunch of bull! Today he took off after a squirrel, treed it, stood up with his front paws on the tree and bellowed to beat the band. He's just the best. I've been taking him out on walks every evening to get him used to all the different things around us and he's doing much better on a leash. In fact, he doesn't need the halti anymore when we go on our nightly walk.
Thank you so much for what you guys do. Without y'all, we wouldn't have Cody. He's right at home here and loves being part of the family.
All our best,
Beth, Leslie, Kyle, Morgan, & Cody
Betty,
I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that Noelle is doing terrific! The first few times we had to cage her while we went to work, she had gone potty in her cage and you could tell she was quite anxious. Now that she has settled into our routine, that isnít happening anymore. I think she knows ìhey, these guys are coming back for me each night.î Sheís eating great, never goes potty in the house, sleeps all night and is soooooooo playful. We couldnít be more thrilled!! I still canít believe how things turned out and we actually have her. I am forever grateful for the care provided by your staff and the handlers at the institution.
Thanks again.
Susie

Betty & George,
Hey there. How are things? We just wanted to send you a note to say that Today (
Jan. 29th), 1 year ago, was the day we adopted
Cassandra. We wanted to say thank you again for everything you did and for bringing her to us.
Cassandra enjoyed her peanutbutter/dog cookie cake today ;)
Hope all is well.
Take care,
Lisa & Jonas

Hi,
I just wanted to update you on the progress of Randell. He is a great dog. He seems to fit into our life perfectly. I know that my wife was a little nervous about getting a dog (i.e. would he bark all the time?, would he just be a nuisance?, would we have time for him?). It only took a couple of days for her to fall in love with Randell. He is perf-ectly behaved, except for the occasional mischief he gets into...but that's to be expected...and that's why we love him. We love spending time with him. He does good in his kennel, even though he doesn't like to be in there: he wants to be around people all the time. He loves to go to the park. We still keep him on his leash most of the time because he loves to chase rabbits and squirrels.
We've brought him home to my parents and they love him. We also take him to my wife's parents house a lot and he loves that! They have a greyhound and a dachshund. Randell will run around and play with them all day.
I would agree with the handlers that Randell doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He is the most loving, playful dog I have ever met. I would like to thank you for giving us an opportunity to adopt Randell and a special thanks to his handlers who did such a good job training him. I think they are a big reason why Randell got adopted and I would support this training program all the way! I've attached some pictures of him. I tried to get some pictures of him playing, but he is a little nervous about the camcorder. Let me know if you get the pictures.
Thank you,
Mitch and Jen
My name is Mary Townsley and my husband Bruce surprised me with a kitten named Farmer for christmas from your Humane Soc-iety. I know what ur thinking..a pet for christmas is a bad idea..I'm right along with ya..however I already have 2 cats and I love them both dearly and bugged and bugged my husband for the past few months for a kitten. Needless to say I was surprised and very happy with my christmas gift..Farmer, who is now better known as Tyson has fit in well with our family including my other 2 bundles of cat love Travis and Trevor. I just wanted to follow up with you and let every-one know who took care of Tyson that he went to a good home and to thank all of you who helped my husband through the adoption process (he mentioned how helpful and kind everyone was especially Kathy). I was even more pleased to know he was adopted through the Humane Society for I am a firm believer of your organization and everything you guys do.
Cats are people, too!!!
Mary
Dear Betty, Cathy, and Deputy Sheriff Kronk,
Bonzi has had an excellent Christmas, and I'm forwarding, in separate emails, a couple of photos a neighbor took of Bonzi. He's wearing his red sweater; I think it suits him very well. Outside he wears a bright yellow coat with a faux fur lining - very smart looking and suits his sunny personality.
Bonzi settled in perfectly from the first day, and it's hard to remember when he didn't live with us. He's a smart dog, figured out the household routine right away, worked out his relationship with the cats, loves the dogs, is super friendly, dances on his back legs and speaks, and plays and plays with toys. He isn't destructive in the house apart from the odd chewing of a chair leg and Christmas tree ornaments. I take him for lots of walks so he gets tired out and cra-shes. He has made friends in the dog park and races around playing. I let him off the leash once but won't do that again until I've taught him to listen to me, to come etc. which he doesn't do at all right now. I'm also going to buy him a harness which I prefer to attaching lea-shes to collars.
Thanks, everyone, for making the little guy so happy until I found him!
Happy New Year,
Elizabeth
Hi, folks,
Bonzi here. I'm very well settled in now but of course I never forget you folks, or the guys in the prison program. You all should be proud of me! I still dance on my back legs and, when I feel like it, I "speak". Mom wishes I remembered more of my other commands, the boring ones like: Sit! Come! Heel! Whatever....
Mom has decided to work on Sit. A lady in the pet store where we got my new squeaky toy told her that it takes 6,000 repetitions for a dog to truly learn something. At the rate we're going with Sit, I'll know how to do it by the end of next summer. It's not that I don't know what it means, it's just that I often don't feel like sitting, and when I do sit, I don't feel like doing it for more than a few seconds. Whatever.....
I am really good friends with Tigger, Emory and Daisy and other dogs who like to run and run and run which is my favorite thing. When I go to the park and they're not there, I am very sad and I sit and sulk, hoping if I stay there they'll appear. Today it was raining and nobody was around! Mom had to run around the house chasing me to make me feel better.
I really like my dog sisters and they like me. We cuddle and hang out.
I love to sleep in. Mom has never seen a dog who sleeps in like I do. I just hate leaving her nice warm bed even though she and my sisters have been up for hours! But once I'm awake, I'm pretty non-stop.
Everyone here thinks I am very cute. Just to let you know....
Love to all of you, and tell the guys at the prison that they did a great job with me!
Bonzi Billy Beagle
Betty,
We are the family that adopted Navarre. We want C. Plesmid (his trainer) to know that Navarre is doing great! We have 5 kids. He gets along great with all of them, plus the neighborhood dogs and kids. Navarre seems to have adaped really well. He's not barking yet (like it's his territory here), but he seems very comfortable and not at all depressed about having been moved here. He seems to be attaching well to our family. Thank you Plesmid and Betty!
Plesmid did a great!!!! training job. Nevarre knows everything Plesmid said. But he is really getting ALOT better at sit stay (really good!), Down stay (pretty good), and even Stand stay (learning, but eager to learn). He heels off leash now, and I can walk him around the block without holding his leash. I'm getting ready to walk him with his gentle leader on but no leash. I think he can do it. He's totally trained to our underground fence.
The most important thing Plesmid did, from our point of view, is to teach Navarre that someone is trying to teach him something. I know that sounds weird, but Navarre keenly knows when we are trying to get him to do something and he really tries to understand what we want him to do with whatever command. He is really teachable. Our whole neighborhood is saying how terriffic he is and how great the cell/prison dog program is. They even joke they want to send their own dogs (and even kids) to prison to be in the program. We aretelling everyone possible about the program. It's the BEST!!!!!
Please let Plesmid know what a GREAT job he did. Navarre is PERFECT for our family and the BEST dog ever. It is totally due to the great training Plesmid did. Your program is GREAT!!!!! I wish we could get one like it locally. We have lots of prisons/jails and lots of strays from the cities around here - it is pretty densly populated here. What a great way to give inmate/trainers a GREAT job with WOND-ERFUL benefits to the community at large, plus save dogs' lives.
Our photos so far aren't too good. When we get some good ones, we'll send them. If your husband has the ones from when we picked up Navarre, we'd love to have copies. Anyway, you are doing a WONDERFUL work. Thank you for placing a WONDERFUL and well trained dog in our family. We will be grateful forever!!!!!
Many thanks and best wishes for your work and your program,
Vicki

Here are a few pictures of August. We adopted her a little over a month ago and she has really become a huge part of our family. She is a great little dog and we love her very much and we thank you more then we could ever tell you for finding her and allowing us to bring her into our family.
Thanks again,
The Snyder family

Betty,
Wanted to show you how happy Buster the poodle looks.
Michael

Here is the picture of Patches I promised you almost six months ago. Patches is doing very well with me. I really appreciate the efforts the staff at Madison Humane Society make to help the pets they take in. May you all have a happy and rewarding new year.

Riley and new family
Hi Betty,
I wanted to give you an update on Ivory & I. We are so devoted to each other. Where ever I am in the house, that's where she is. She is constantly beside of me. I have trained her a bit more & she's a very smart dog. I take her shopping at the pet stores & she loves picking out her own toys. It has to squeak to meet her satisfaction. She loves riding in the car. I very seldom go without her. She sees me put my hand bag on my shoulder & she's hopping like a rabbit to go with me. She won't leave the yard. She knows her boundaries. If I go to visit a neighbor, she walks right beside & if something draws her attention, she looks at me as if asking, can I check it out? I get many com-ments on how much I spoil her. My son says," Mom, she's not a child "I tell him to me she is. I never knew the love that could trans-pire between a master & dog. She brings me so much conten-tment. I flew to Florida for 5 days this summer . My son & neighbors watched Ivory for me . We missed each other so much that I drive on trips & take her with me now . I found that many motels accept dogs . Thank you so much for putting Ivory & I together ! The inmates that trained her had her profile to a T . They did a fantastic job Training her !
