THE BONZI AWARD
The award is named after Bonzi, a tiny beagle who was one of the dogs rescued in the Humane Society's first successful neglect prosecution.
Once released for adoption, Bonzi began a great adventure to his forever home. A college professor in Toronto Canada saw his picture on Petfinder.com and applied to adopt him. Right before Christmas she flew from Toronto and spent the afternoon with Bonzi. Board Member "Beagle" Bill Ballis drove Bonzi and his new mom back to the airport. One international plane flight, a commuter train ride, a subway, and a taxi later, he arrived at his new home. He still sends periodic pictures and e-mails about his adventures as a canine with dual citizenship. The Bonzi Award was created to honor those individuals or organizations whose devotion to an animal or animals in our care went above and beyond the ordinary and whose extraordinary efforts helped these animals find their happily ever afters with their forever families.
