The
Humane Society of Madison County in conjunction with the
Madison County Correctional Institution have developed a foster care/training program. The program is designed to teach the dogs basic commands
(i.e. sit, down, stay, heel), housebreaking, some hand signals, and the likes and dislikes of each dog.
The inmates must apply and are reviewed to become a
'handler'. Once approved the handler is given 1 of 30 dogs in the program. They are to foster and care for the dog until either the 90 day program is completed or the dog is adopted.
This program has helped the
Humane Society of Madison County place more dogs in loving homes. Giving these wonderful animals a second chance.
